Role Summary
Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We're looking for an Assistant Vice President for Credit Department, LBO CD(E). This is a second line of defence role providing credit risk management / oversight of new leveraged finance / LBO transactions and the existing leveraged finance portfolio across EMEA. You will have some direct responsibility for the review of portfolio accounts reporting to approvers and as part of a team as necessary on new deals, complex situations and special credits.
Essentials of the role include:
- Risk assessment of new leverage finance transactions and management of a portfolio of leverage credits including Problem Assets.
- Working as a trusted partner with Front Office deal teams to ensure delivery to clients whilst maintaining high credit quality. Articulate CD risk perception and appetite for a transaction in line with bank policy and procedures, interact / communicate with front office teams, and present transactions to senior members of the department / approvers.
- Willingness / flexibility to be involved in ad hoc projects supporting the strategy of LBO CD(E) and the wider department / institution.
Candidates should have:
- Degree level education and / or equivalent professional qualifications (ACA, ACCA, ACT, CFA, MBA).
- Experience in a credit-focused role in a major international bank or similar professional background (experience in special credit management / work-outs or within a front office role is also desirable). Some specific leveraged finance experience is desirable.
- A working knowledge of LBO, corporate loan products, trade finance products and derivative products, including familiarity with documentation and market trends.
In addition to the candidate requirements detailed above, it is desirable for candidates to have a high level of IT literacy, strong written and verbal communication skills (supporting preparation of succinct and focused credit papers), and strong interpersonal skills (supporting collaboration / teamwork).
Business Area
LBO CD(E) is a team of c.15 leveraged finance credit professionals acting as the second line of defence. You will assist the team in the management of a c.US$8bn portfolio of leveraged finance loans with primary responsibility for credit management of c.180 customers together with the assessment of new transactions (c.200 'Early Read Meetings' and c.90 new approvals per annum), annual reviews and gradings, and waivers and amendments for portfolio accounts.
Position Description
You will report to the Executive Director / Senior Credit Officer of LBO CD(E) within a team of c.15 leveraged finance credit professionals. You will act as primary analyst on portfolio accounts and new transactions, with oversight of a secondary analyst where required, and manage the credit application and approval process in conjunction with Front Office / SPD (first line of defence). The role requires you to engage with Front Office professionals and provide appropriate challenge on risk issues / develop workable solutions to mitigate risk issues.
Together with the essentials of the role detailed above, accountabilities and responsibilities include:
- Flexibility / ability to work to tight deadlines and assist team members by proactively acting in a manner which ensures work is fairly distributed, particularly in times of strong work flow.
- Collaboration with other risk and compliance functions where appropriate to ensure enterprise wide view of risk is considered.
- Develop relationships within the team: seek guidance and advice from colleagues; express well-reasoned arguments and influence senior colleagues.
