Data Team Lead - Global Proprietary Trading Firm

A leading global trading and derivatives firm is hiring a Data Team Lead to manage and scale critical reference data systems that power trading across global markets.

You'll lead a small team while staying hands-on-designing, building, and optimising pipelines that ingest and process massive datasets with speed, accuracy, and reliability. This is a role where the technical decisions you make have direct, firm-wide impact on trading performance.

What you'll do

• Lead and mentor a high-performing data engineering team.
• Architect and optimise data pipelines handling vast volumes of market data.
• Apply deep Python and SQL expertise to improve reliability, throughput, and latency.
• Partner with quants, traders, and developers to ensure seamless data availability.
• Implement best-practice database design and modelling principles.
• Drive automation, monitoring, and performance tuning across systems.
• Balance strategic leadership with hands-on problem solving.

What we're looking for

• Proven leadership experience in data engineering or platform teams.
• Advanced skills in Python, SQL, and database design.
• Experience working with large-scale, high-volume datasets.
• Strong collaboration skills, comfortable engaging directly with technical and trading stakeholders.
• Financial data experience ideal, but backgrounds in big tech handling extreme scale also considered.

Total Compensation: $300-400k + (base & bonus)
