We are representing a global hedge fund with deep expertise across systematic and discretionary strategies. As part of the continued build‑out of the Fundamental Long/Short Equity platform in Asia, the team is looking to hire a Japan‑focused Equity Analyst based in Singapore.
This is a core research role with genuine ownership, long runway, and the opportunity to build a sustainable investment process rather than operate within a pod structure.

Responsibilities:

• The role combines bottom‑up equity research with close collaboration across the wider platform.
• Fundamental coverage of a defined universe of Japanese equities, specialising in a sector.
• Generation and ownership of differentiated long and short investment ideas.
• Focus on alpha generation, rather than supporting a PM‑led pod.
• Collaboration within globally equity team, as well as interaction with the ECM desk when corporate activity is relevant to coverage.
• Use of corporate access, alternative data, and internal resources to develop an edge.
• Opportunity to help broaden Japan and broader North Asia coverage from the Singapore hub

Qualifications:

• 4-8+ years' experience in equity research, either from the sell side or buy side
• Strong fundamental skill set including financial modelling, valuation, and downside analysis
• Coverage and interest in Japanese equities and the ability to develop deep company‑level expertise
• Experience or strong interest in long/short investing
• Ability to work without preconceptions and build a repeatable research process
• Comfortable taking responsibility and accountability for ideas and outcomes
• Japanese language skills are helpful but not a hard requirement depending on experience
