Black Engineers of Canada (BEC) is a Non for Profit Professional Organization geared towards providing a safe environment for Black Engineers where they can aspire and become a better version of themselves. The Opportunity
We are searching for a Learning & Development Specialist (Volunteer) who will handle the following responsibilities by dedicating 5 - 10 hours weekly of volunteer time.
Key Responsibilities
Learning Strategy & Program Development
- Design and implement volunteer-focused learning and development initiatives aligned with organizational goals.
- Conduct learning needs assessments to identify skill gaps, onboarding needs, and development opportunities.
- Support leadership development and upskilling opportunities for volunteer leaders and coordinators.
Onboarding & Orientation
- Design and maintain volunteer onboarding and orientation programs.
- Collaborate with Recruitment and Onboarding teams to ensure a seamless learning experience for new volunteers.
- Ensure onboarding materials are clear, engaging, and accessible to diverse volunteer groups.
Training Design, Delivery & Evaluation
- Create engaging learning materials (guides, toolkits and presentations); co-create and deliver specialized training.
- Facilitate virtual training sessions, workshops, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Use learning insights and volunteer feedback to drive continuous improvement of program design and delivery.
Collaboration & Administration
- Collaborate with HR and relevant departments/committees to align learning efforts.
- Track learning participation and maintain accurate records.
- Attend team meetings and contribute to cross-functional initiatives.
- Provide administrative and operational support related to learning activities as needed.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Experience in learning & development, training, education, HR, or volunteer management.
- Strong instructional design and facilitation skills.
- Experience creating learning materials for adult learners.
- Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
- Passion for volunteer development, inclusion, and mission-driven work.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment.
