Product Controller - Energy & Metals

Overview

We are seeking a Product Controller to support the Energy & Metals trading business, with a strong focus on physical trading activities. The role partners closely with Front Office, Risk, and Finance to deliver accurate P&L reporting, robust controls, and commercial insight. A solid understanding of physical commodity trading is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare, review, and analyze daily P&L for physical trading desks, including clear commentary on key drivers and variances. Assist in the review of consolidated regional P&L reporting and provide insight into trading performance.

Perform monthly balance sheet substantiation, ensuring all accounts are fully supported and documented. Maintain strong financial controls and ensure the integrity of financial data.

Build relationships with Front Office, Risk, Treasury, FP&A, Tax, and Operations. Develop a strong commercial understanding of physical trading flows, logistics, and valuation methodologies, and act as a key point of contact for P&L-related queries.

Identify and implement process improvements, including automation initiatives, by working closely with technology teams to streamline manual or semi-automated processes.

Support internal and external audits, ensuring all Product Control activities are appropriately documented and compliant with regulatory requirements.

Skills & Competencies

Strong understanding of product control processes, financial controls, and accounting principles. Proven experience in physical commodity trading (Energy and/or Metals) is essential.

Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and a problem-solving mindset. Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and MS Office.

Effective communication skills with the ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders and Front Office.

Resilient and adaptable, with the ability to perform in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. Collaborative, proactive, and able to build strong working relationships across functions.

Experience & Qualifications

Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a Product Control or similar role within commodities trading. Hands-on experience in physical trading environments is required.

Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) is preferred but not essential. Experience working in a regulated environment is advantageous.
