SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST
Department: School-wide
Reports to: Assistant Superintendent
Job Summary:
Provides support for teachers, learning specialists, counselors, the Admissions Director, parents and students throughout the school in psycho-educational areas and is an integral member of the Learning Support Resource Teams (LSRT) in each division. The key focus of the School Psychologist’s intervention is assessment of students and provision of information relevant to student’s learning needs. The School Psychologist consults with each Principal through the work with students in their division, but due to the nature of the school wide role the School Psychologist reports directly to the Assistant Superintendent.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate Degree in Psychometrics and Educational Measurement
Training and experience in the administration of cognitive, academic and social-emotional instruments
Training and experience in the assessment of behavior, attention and executive functioning
An understanding of the assessment challenges of working in a linguistically and culturally diverse population
Knowledge of therapeutic, behavioral and academic intervention
Excellent organizational skills, initiative and drive
Highly developed and sensitive communicator - both verbal and written
An ability to foster and sustain a community that rejects all forms of discrimination
Excellent interpersonal skills with children and adults
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborates with teachers, learning specialists, Admissions Director, counselors and administration in determining the nature of support needed to effectively program for incoming students
Working as part of the LSRT, gathers evidence through classroom observations, teacher and parent interviews, to devise and evaluate Tier 1 and 2 interventions
Conducts individual psychoeducational assessment to identify strengths and weaknesses in a student’s cognitive, academic, behavioral, social and emotional functioning
Consults with parents regarding the outcomes and implications of assessment
Provides individualized recommendations for parents and educational team to guide future programing
Serves as a peer consultant to teachers and counselors seeking greater clarification on the management of students
Provide school-based counseling
Liaises with community based professionals concerning the social/emotional well-being of students and families (including networking with professionals from other schools)
Provides the school community with support after a critical incident
Serves as a member of the School Based Response Team(SBRT) when required.
Collaborates with school-wide counseling team for individual case sharing and creating cross-divisional development opportunities for members of the school community
Collaborates with Learning Support, Specialized Learning Support and grade-level Program Leaders across divisions to strengthen the scope of the LS program
Remains current in the latest trends in psycho-educational assessment
Addresses groups of parents and teachers on psycho-educational issues and topics
Develops and manages an effective budget and adheres to budget processes and timelines.
Assist in developing and maintaining safe spaces for all students at ISM.
Fosters and sustains a community that rejects all forms of discrimination.
Assists in developing and maintaining safe spaces for all individuals at ISM.
Performs all other assignments as required by supervisor
Conditions
Remunerated according to the faculty salary scale
Holidays as faculty in the school calendar, but with an annual start date one week before faculty return to assist with admissions testing
