Description
TransX Ltd is currently recruiting for a Supervisor, Payroll & Settlements to join our Human Resources Department. Are you a payroll professional who sees a spreadsheet and immediately thinks of a way to automate it? Are you as passionate about workflow development and process improvement as you are about compliance? We are looking for a continuous improvement specialist who can identify bottlenecks, eliminate manual workarounds, and build a scalable, "best-in-class" payroll function.
In this role, reporting to the Manager, Payroll & Settlements, you won’t just oversee the day-to-day execution of payroll for both Canada and the US; you will be the primary architect of our internal systems.
This pivotal role pivotal role goes beyond routine payroll processing and is instrumental in designing, implementing, and optimizing our payroll workflows to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance. The Supervisor leads a team of payroll clerks of Payroll & Settlements professionals, supporting their ongoing development and partnering in escalations and complex payroll matters.
Requirements
Skills & Functional Knowledge
Proven experience leading process improvement initiatives or system implementation/migration projects within payroll.
Strong ability to create workflows, manuals, and standard operating procedures.
Exceptional analytical, problemsolving, and planning skills with meticulous attention to detail.
Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation (Employment Standards, EI, CPP, WCB, income tax, benefit plans).
Working knowledge of U.S. payroll and benefits regulations (e.g., COBRA) is an asset.
Ability to navigate ambiguity and make sound decisions with incomplete information.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflictresolution skills.
High integrity and professionalism when handling confidential information.
Ability to work under pressure, manage interruptions, and meet strict deadlines.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong computer literacy across payroll and HRIS systems.
Demonstrated ability to build strong internal and external working relationships.
Education & Experience
Postsecondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Minimum 5 years of payroll experience, including 3 years in the transportation sector.
Minimum 3 years of progressive supervisory experience in a payroll environment.
Experience with ADP Workforce Now is required.
Active membership with the Canadian Payroll Association; working toward the CPM designation is an asset.
Strong proficiency with integrated HR/payroll systems and advanced computer applications (Excel, Access, Word, etc.).
