The Standards Board for Alternative Investments (SBAI) is strengthening its team with a Director for North America with responsibility for relationship management, event programming, and regional activities while contributing to the SBAI’s growth and visibility across the alternatives industry. The Director will work closely with the SBAI’s global team, the Senior Advisor for North America, and the North American Committee.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
Stakeholder Relations: Support and manage relationships with existing North American Signatories (asset managers) and Investor Chapter members (allocators).
Business Development: Build and progress a pipeline of prospective members (asset owners and managers) across North America.
Networking & Events: Collaborate with the SBAI team to plan and deliver activities across the region, including annual flagship forums in New York City and Montreal/Toronto, regional roundtables, practical workshops, and educational webinars. coordinating agenda development and speaker sourcing.
Programming: Develop a business plan to grow and convene SBAI Communities and regional programmes, contributing to longer-term planning and execution.
Representation: Represent the SBAI at industry conferences and events and work with partners and industry organisations to support SBAI initiatives.
Collaboration: Ensure that market intelligence is collated and communicated to the SBAI team to help inform content development..
Hands-On Execution: Work independently and proactively, with a willingness to roll up your sleeves and handle both strategic tasks and detailed execution.
Qualifications
Genuine interest in asset management, investments, markets, and the evolution of the alternative investment industry.
Understanding of the alternatives industry and awareness of key topics across asset classes, operations, and regulatory matters.
Background in consulting or allocation is an advantage but not required.
Familiarity with the SBAI’s work is a plus.
Experience managing or supporting relationships with asset managers and allocators.
Strong project and time-management skills; comfortable working both independently and collaboratively.
Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
Strong organisational, writing, and presentation abilities.
At least 5–8 years of investment industry experience preferred; strong candidates with less experience but relevant skills and ambition for career growth are also encouraged to apply.
Self-starter who thrives in a small, dynamic team and is comfortable being self-sufficient day-to-day.
Based in North America; remote role (United States or Canada, Eastern Time zone preferred).
Ability to travel within North America (approx. 10-20%).
