Description

We are currently representing an exciting hedge fund manager who are seeking a senior investor to build and lead its APAC fundamental equities team. This is a high-impact leadership hire, tasked with establishing and scaling a regional franchise within a top-tier global hedge fund.

Role Overview

• Build, lead, and manage the APAC fundamental equities business, with responsibility for idea generation and alpha delivery
• Focus on fundamental research and stock selection, partnering with centralised teams for portfolio construction, sizing, and risk management
• Define regional research strategy across APAC equities, including sector focus and market coverage
• Hire, mentor, and develop a high-calibre team of analysts and sector specialists
• Work closely with the firm's central risk, data, and quant teams to translate research into deployable investment strategies

Key Responsibilities

• Generate high-conviction long/short ideas across APAC equities using a disciplined fundamental process
• Build and institutionalise a repeatable research framework across sectors and geographies
• Establish best-in-class research standards, including modelling, channel checks, and variant perception work
• Collaborate with portfolio construction and risk teams, who are responsible for sizing, exposure, and capital allocation
• Scale coverage across key APAC markets (Japan, China, Korea, India)
• Recruit and develop talent, fostering a high-performance, research-driven culture

Key Requirements

• Proven track record as a senior Portfolio Manager, coming from another multi-manager platform
• Deep experience investing in APAC equities across one or multiple sectors
• Clear strength in idea generation and research leadership, rather than pure portfolio construction
• Prior experience building or leading analyst teams
• Established network across corporates, sell-side, and expert channels within APAC
• Highly collaborative, with the ability to operate effectively within a centralised, systematic risk framework
• Strong intellectual rigour and a well-articulated investment philosophy
